Dear Sir or Madam

   I am Li Hua a student from Guangming Middle School. When I went to see a friend in the countryside this summer I was shocked to find a large quantity of farming land deserted.

   The reasons are various. firstly the terrible weather caused the land to become too dry to grow crops and some of it was finally deserted. Secondly large pieces of farmland have been polluted by the waste water discarded from the factory nearby. In addition with the development of cities and towns many young people are choosing to work in cities instead of taking up farm work.

   As we all know food is of great significance for our human beings’ survival. Therefore measures should be taken to stop the farmland being deserted any more. Otherwise we have no land to grow crops on to feed ourselves in the near future.
