V-ing或V-ed大多数情况下就相当于形容词,可以做定语、表语、状语、补语等.而V-ing还有一种原来我们称之为动名词的情况,则相当于名词的用法,做主语、宾语、定语等.如果做状语,则要看1. 如果该动词是及物动词,后面有宾语则用ing；后面没有宾语则用ed；2.如果该动词为不及物动词,则用ing；3.有些是固定的用法,如Judging from, Provide that等.举例说明：______ (see) from space, our earth is a blue planet._______(see) that she can't lift the box, he walked up to help her.这两题中,see是及物动词,而第一空后没有宾语,只有介词,所以填Seen；第二空,that引导宾语从句做see的宾语,所以填Seeing.
