The world has seven continents and five oceans.Seven continents,they are (from largest in size to smallest):Asia,Africa,North America,South America,Antarctica,Europe,and Australia.Europe and Asia are sometimes considered a single continent,Eurasia.The continents vary greatly in size and in ratio of coastline to total area.More than two-thirds of the world's continental land area lies north of the equator,and all the continents except Antarctica are wedge-shaped,wider in the north than in the south.As for the 5 oceans,the three principal oceans are the Pacific,Atlantic,and Indian,largely delimited by land and submarine topographic boundaries.All are connected to what is sometimes called the Southern Ocean,the waters encircling Antarctica.Important marginal seas,primarily in the Northern Hemisphere,are partially enclosed by landmasses or island arcs.The largest are the Arctic Ocean and adjacent seas,Caribbean and adjacent waters,Mediterranean,Bering Sea,Sea of Okhotsk,Yellow and China Seas,and Sea of Japan.
