A portfolio or showreel is required for:
undergraduate applicants seeking exemptions
any postgraduate applicant
The portfolio or showreel should be electronic (see format
guidelines below) and should accompany the completed
international application document.We recognise applicants
will vary considerably in their backgrounds,and in order to
advantage as many candidates as possible,the content of the
portfolio is not prescribed.
Note:Design students entering Year 1 of a Bachelor degree
- via the equivalent enter score and without exemptions - are
not required to present a portfolio or attend an interview.The
faculty believes a student's grades (enter score) reflect an
even and reliable assessment of future capabilities as they
are provided by teachers who have a long-term knowledge
of each student and the student's competency across a wide
range of subjects.
For Graduate Diploma programs,Master programs and
above
Students applying for postgraduate coursework programs
need to submit examples of design work (portfolio) or a
showreel along with academic transcripts from previous
college or university qualifications.
Advanced entry may be given for applicants with significant
work experience in design.
Applicants should consider the following in preparation
of their portfolio:
In general,applicants should submit their best,most recent
work.The portfolio should seek to represent personal interests
and abilities.Applicants are encouraged to send electronic
copies and not originals of their portfolio / showreel as
submissions will not be returned.
Work may include:
Drawing – with an emphasis on observational
drawing skills and personal expression
Photography – with an emphasis on visual and
conceptual skills as well as technique
Design or Multimedia project work that demonstrates
originality and problem-solving capabilities
Visual and written documentation of the design
development stages of a design project
Finished examples (photographs,illustrations or
renderings) of a 2-D or 3-D design project
Design related work from another discipline
Project work that demonstrates a visual narrative or
sequence.
Group-based work can be submitted however it is
essential to include a description of the extent of your
involvement and contribution to the finished result.
Portfolio / Showreel Format
A consolidated PowerPoint,PDF,Flash or .MOV file
on a CD formatted for both PC and Macintosh or
alternatively on a DVD
A collection of between 15 and 30 images of work
(as summarised above)
A clear label of your name on the CD/DVD
Where possible give a small description of the
project,especially if done during industry experience
Include necessary execution files such as
QuickTime,Acrobat Reader or Flash Player etc.
