请教一个英语的语法问题
Replies show that compared with other Americans,journalists are more likely to live in upscale neighborhoods,have maids,own Mercedeses,and trade stocks,ang they are less likely to go to church,do volunteer work,or put down roots in a community.
上面这个句子中“Replies show that compared with other Americans”里面的compared用了过去式,这是为什么,就算是过去式的话,不是应该有be动词吗,本人语法知识较为贫乏,希望讲解的人能讲得详细一点.

首先,纠正一下：过去式不是由be动词引导的,而过去分词可以由be动词引导.可要注意哦.
你提到问题很好,为什么没有be?
compared是过去分词,但是引导它的be动词其实给省略了,看如下：
Replies show that,(to be) compared with other Americans,journalists are...
英语中的一些插入语或短语往往可以省略次要内容,例如有时which、who或that在句子中就可以被省略.
其实“(to be) compared with other Americans”是个插入语,去掉插入语的话,可以这样表达：
Replies show that journalists are...

此外,我见在that后面加个逗号“,”以便提现“compared with other Americans”是个插入语.
