People in an Italian town now have an unusual way to get paid — cycling to work.

The council(议会）in Massarosa just north of Pisa in Italy has said that a plan will be tried that cyclists will be paid 25cents(1.7 Yuan) per kilometer up to 50 Euros (340 Yuan) per month. That means those who cycle to work could get up to 600 Euros in a year. It’s said to be the first of this type of scheme in Italy reported the BBC.

The plan will first be tried for 12 months on 50 workers and a smartphone app will be used to record the distance traveled each day. Fines collected from traffic tickets in the town are being used to pay for the plan.

“The Bike to Work plan will give rewards to people to make sure the area becomes more livable ” said local councilor Stefano Natale adding that it would mean less traffic on the street and healthier people in the town.

The passage mainly tells us that the government of an Italian town will carry out the Bike to Work plan — those who ride to work will get paid according to the distance traveled.

We can conclude that the government intends to start the plan just because they want to reduce the number of vehicles on the road and at the same time it can also improve people’s health condition by riding. As we all know too many vehicles will do great damage to the environment around us. Firstly the noises made by the vehicles can make people uncomfortable. Secondly the waste gas given out from the vehicles are not friendly to the atmosphere. Then too much use of vehicles will have negative effects on energy sources the soil and the water.

In conclusion the Bike to Work plan will do something good to the environment and all of us should do our parts to make contributions to it; meanwhile people’s health condition will also get improved.
