The Internet has made all of our lives easier.Banking, shopping,
communicating with friends and family are all easier because of
advances in the Internet.Unfortunately, the Internet has also made it
easier for those who wish do us harm. The Internet, and the speed at
which it can be acquired, has created new issues for the safety and
privacy of those who use the Internet.Below is a list of rules to make you
internet surfing for you and your kids more enjoyable.
 Keep your Account ID and password private.Your online service will never ask
for them,so neither should anyone else.
 Make sure pop-ups and phishing are turned on your Internet Browser.
 Make sure that your firewall is on while surfing on the internet.
 Keep virus software update and scan regularly.
 Never open up any e-mail or attachments that you receive from people you don't
know.
 Don't give out personal information about yourself or anyone else. This
means no posting of phone numbers,addresses,e-mail addresses,Social
Security numbers, passwords,or any other private information. You should
not share the name of your school or the name of your school's team. Also,
do not ask anyone else to post his or her phone number,address,e-mail
address,Social Security number, password,or any other private
information.
 Never open and always delete unknown e-mail attachments. They can contain
destructive viruses.
 Remember that nothing you write on the Web is completely private - including email. So be careful and think about you type and who you tell.
 For Parents:Set clear rules for Internet use.Keep Internet-connected
computers in an open area where you can easily supervise your kids'
activities.Encourage your children to tell you if something or someone
online makes them feel uncomfortable or threatened.Investigate Internetfiltering tools.Set family safety tools on the medium security setting.
 For Kids:Do not meet someone or have them visit you without the permission of
your parents.Never to give out personal information such as your name,
home address, school name,or telephone number in a chat room or on
bulletin boards.Never send a picture of yourself to someone you chat with
on the computer without your parent's permission.Remember that people
online may not be who they say they are.Someone who says that "she" is a
"12-year-old girl" could really be an older man.
