I stopped when I got to a garage-like place and walked to the metal door with brown paint. I turned the knob (把手) and walk in. A thousand eyes looked at me as I took my place at the end of the long line. When I finally got up to the window I handed the officer my ID. "I’m here to visit Mr C. Yes I’m his daughter. "

The officer handed me a piece of paper with my name as the visitor and my father’s as the prisoner. It told me which floor to go to. As I got on the lift a rush of excitement ran through me. Then I went to the eighth floor looked around and saw the faces I saw here every Sunday and Thursday.  

There he was. I stood on tiptoe (脚尖) to get a better view since I could hardly see him. He didn’t look like my father. He’d got a beard (胡子) now and he looked weaker. He was the dad that I saw through a window. My dad was separated from the world. The only place he now knew was his room in the prison. When I looked deep into his eyes I see emptiness and pain.   

It was difficult to hear him through the thick glass and over everyone else who was trying to talk. We tried to carry on a normal conversation about simple things including my day and what I was doing in school but we mostly talked about how we couldn’t wait until he got out.

My favorite place was where my father was—prison. I know how could it be anyone’s favorite place? But it was because my father was there. It would no longer be my favorite place once he got out though—home will be.
