"说到底，中国教育与西方教育的不同，绝不仅是方法上的不同，而是教育功能定位上的不同。中国的教育是底层向上攀登的阶梯，平民子弟要想成为精英，就必须吃苦受累。而西方的教育则是一个分层机制，它的大众教育只提供基本、有限的教育，要想成为精英，就必须从市场上另行购买教育，买不起的人则自然而然地被淘汰了。
