With the differences of areas,circumstances and customs,Chinese food embodies a lot of differences with western food in a lot of aspects,such as material,taste,the way of cooking,and so on.The differences of logic of thinking and philosophy make the differences between Chinese and western food cultures.
An old saying,“The masses regard sufficient food as their heaven” tells us the importance of food in the eyes of Chinese.Because of it,Chinese try their best to find as much food as they can,and make the food as delicious as possible.And in order to identify if the food is delicious,Chinese carry out a series of rule called “color,smell,and taste”.If a kind of food reaches certain standard of the rule,people think the food is a tasty delicacy.
In order to make food as delicious as possible,Chinese find a lot of ways to cook it,including frying,stir-frying,stew,braise,steam,and so on.However,the nutrition flows away through some ways of cooking.And it is also the biggest problem of Chinese food.On the way to pursue the taste,Chinese ignore the purpose of eating,making people more healthy.And people serve the color and smell to the tasty delicacy.And the ingredient does good job here.
However,westerners view the food in another way.They pay much attention to the nutrition.No matter how the color,smell,and taste are,they should make sure the food they eat is full of nutrition.And the percentage of fuel,vitamin,and protein becomes the focus of their diets.Even though the tastes of different food are monotonous,people should eat them,because they are full of nutrition.
After showing the different concept of Chinese and westerners,here I would like to show you another difference about the various foods.According to the survey from western biologist,the vegetable eaten by Chinese has more than 600,six times more than westerners.Maybe it is affected by the Buddhism.The Buddhism views animals as animate,but botany inanimate,so the Buddhist convinces vegetarianism.However,westerners regard the dishes as things to allay their hunger,so they like to eat joint.
And Chinese would like to share their topic with all the people around the table to deepen their relationships.But the westerners do not do so.In order to show their rites,they do not speak loudly when they are having meals.Even though they want to communicate with the persons beside them,they should speak in low voice.Most of time they would like to enjoy their meals respectively.
All of the three differences above show the different logic of thinking and philosophy between Chinese and western.And I just point out a small part of differences between two cultures,and I have to stop going further.And with the development of our society,the border between Chinese and western becomes more and more ambiguous.Let’s work hard to be able to appreciate the differences of food culture between Chinese and western in our life.

1.I agree with you.People always think Chinese food greasy and MSG-added.(I confess some dishes in restaurants are really cooked in this way.) I think it's a one-sided opinion.
As I'm a Chinese and I also cooked,the real Chinese food is tasty and nutritious.
I think the difference between Chinese food and western food is obviouse.Such as cook styles,Chinese food uses more methods,such as fried,steamed,stired,boiled,...It's said 18 kinds,I don't know if it's really.And also material,such as oil,western food always uses olive oil or butter.
In my experience,Chinese cuisine is much less 'greasy' and healthier than Western cooking.The principles behind Chinese cookery are all very sound:less meat and more vegetables; minimum cooking time (which means more time spent in preparation but results in a much healthier meal); a minimum of oil and fat and salt used in cooking.
2.I dont' think chinese food is greasy at all,not when you compare it to say American Cuisine
3.obviously the different is the method,western-style food is simple but chinese food is complicated,in cook book alone,western-style food varies ingredients such as the flour,sugar,butter etc,have been indicated several grams,cups,and spoons but for chinese is not that easy,because chinese cookbook doesn't tell you how grams of each ingredients..
