According to the monitoring and survey on nearly 200,000 migrant workers from rural area in 31 provinces (and autonomous regions and municipalities directly under the Central Government) by the National Bureau of Statistics in the third quarter of 2009,the number of migrant workers from rural area slightly increased in the third quarter and those workers had stable jobs.By the end of the quarter,there were 151.98mn migrant workers from rural area,1.01mn more than that in the end of the second quarter,up by 0.7%,of which,there were 122.08mn migrant workers whose permanent residence was in rural area and 29.9mn ones who took their families to cities.
1.Growth of migrant workers from rural area in eastern region was faster than that in the central and western regions
By labor-sending region,as of the third quarter,migrant workers from rural area in the eastern region reached 38.77mn,450,000 more than that by the end of the second quarter,or an increase of 1.2%.Such workers from the central region were 45.29mn,80,000 more than that by the end of the second quarter,or an increase of 0.2%.Such workers from the western area were 38.02mn,320,000 more than that by the end of the seconded quarter,or an increase of 0.8%.
2.More migrant workers immigrated to the western region
By destination of migrant workers from rural area,the number of such workers in the eastern region decreased by 0.2% compared with that in the end of the second quarter,accounting for 66.2% of the total number of such workers,a fall of 0.5%,which was the major cause of “migrant worker shortage” in some coastal cities.The number of such workers in the central region fell by 0.4%,accounting for 14.5% of the total,a decrease of 0.2%.The number of such workers immigrated to the western region increased by 4.7%,accounting for 18.9% of the total,a rise of 0.7%.In the first three quarters,the western region witnessed the growth of immigrant workers,becoming the region where the employment of immigrant workers enjoyed the fastest growth across the country.
3.Number of migrant workers in the Yangtze River Delta rose again while that in the Pearl River Delta continued to fall
The number of migrant workers from rural areas who immigrated to the Yangtze River Delta and the Peal River Delta decreased by 1.2% by the end of the second quarter compared with that by the end of the previous quarter.By the end of the third quarter,the number of such workers in the Yangtze River Delta rose by 0.6% compared with that in the second quarter,though fewer than that in the first quarter.In the Pearl River Delta,the number of such works continued to fall by 1.4%.Though the total number of such workers in the first three quarters of this year was on the increase,the number of such workers moving to the Yangtze River Delta and the Pearl River Delta was decreasing.It is mainly because more immigrant workers from the central and western regions chose to work near their hometown and hence the destination of migrant workers transferred to the central and western regions,especially the western region.
4.Percentage of migrant workers migrating within the province was increasing
By the end of the third quarter,of the total migrant workers from rural area,those who migrated to other provinces accounted for 48.9%,and those who migrated within the province where they lived accounted for 51.1%,of which,those who migrated within the county yet outside the town where they lived accounted for 18.3% and those who migrated within the province yet outside the county where they lived accounted for 32.8%.According to survey,the percentage of migrant workers migrating within the province where they lived continued to increase,while that of migrant workers migrating to other provinces fell by 0.4% compared with that in the second quarter of the year.
5.Average income of migrant workers from rural area rose
By the end of the third quarter,the average monthly income of migrant workers from rural area reached RMB1444,RMB40 more than that in the end of the second quarter,or a rise of 2.8%.By region,the average monthly income of migrant workers worked in the eastern region was RMB1455,RMB36 more than that in the end of the second quarter,or a rise of 2.5%; in the central region,the average monthly income of migrant workers was RMB1389,RMB43 more than that in the end of the second quarter,or a rise of 3.2%; and in the western region,the average monthly income was RMB1382,RMB57 more than that in the end of the second quarter,or a rise of 4.3%.Since this year,the average income of such workers in the central and western regions is more or higher than that in the eastern region with respect to increased amount and growth rate.
