In your last e-mail you showed a great interest in our National Stadium —the Bird’s Nest. Now I’d like to introduce it to you.

The Bird’s Nest which looks just like a bird’s nest made of tree branches and can hold about 90 000 spectators is located in the north of Beijing and covers an area of 58 000 square meters. Its construction was started in December 2003 and was completed in 2007. During the Olympic Games we will host the track and field events as well as soccer matches there and after the Games it will be used for large events.

The Bird’s Nest is thought highly of by many people. Kofi Annan gave the thumbs-up to its design and said that it would be a wonder in architecture in the history of the global Games.
