LuXun ,was the pen name of Zhou Shuren (September 25,1881– October 19,1936),a leading figure of modern Chinese literature.Lu Xun wasa novelist,editor,translator,literary critic,essayist,and poet.
LuXun was born in Shaoxing in 1881,and he had two younger brothers:Zhou Zuoren,who was four years younger and Zhou Jianren who was five years younger.While Lu Xun did have a third youngerbrother,this brother died very young.
LuXun's works exerted a substantial influence after the May Fourth Movement that began around1916.He was highly acclaimed by the Communist regimeafter 1949,and Mao Zedong himself was a lifelong admirer of LuXun's works.Though sympathetic to communist ideas,Lu Xun never actuallyjoined the Chinese Communist Party.Like many leadersof the May Fourth Movement,he was primarily a leftistand liberal.
