"Saw," a film that was originally planned for a straight-to-video release but after receiving positive nods at test screenings, was finally given the green light in October 2004 - just in time for Halloween. 《电锯惊魂》原本没有打算上影院而是直接发行录影带.可是当试播获得好评之后,本片在2004年10月得到了影院上映的机会——正好赶上万圣节.《电锯惊魂》的情节结构在开始时比较平铺直叙,可是到了四分之三的时候却又急转直下,揭示了一些全新的内容.
