The bus crashed into a lorry before running off Think Kau bridge near Tuen Mun Village in Hong Kong’s New Territories and plunged down a slope of dozens of meters in height .The driver of the lorry was under investigation at present .
Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region and other government officials arrived at the spot to arrange the rescue work .The Home Affairs Department has set up four inter-departmental help offices to provide assistance and answer general public inquiries .The chief executive said he is “very astonished and sad about the accident.” He expressed his deepest condolences to the family members of those who died in the accident .
Tung urged the Home Affairs Department ,the Social Welfare Department and other departments concerned to provide all the necessary assistance to the victims and their families .
He praised the police ,medical and healthcare personnel for the great efforts they have made in rescue operation.He also instructed the police and the relevant departments to carry out a thorough investigation into the accident .
Secretary for the Environment ,Transport and Works Sarah Liao Sau-tung told the press Thursday morning that it is still not available the number of passengers on the bus when the accident took place .
