IT was the first class of the morning of September 4 at Beijing No 35 Middle School.When the class began,math teacher Xu Junjun told the students that there was a special guest sitting at the back of the room.The students turned round and saw – Premier Wen Jiabao!He was greeting the students with a big smile.
Wen has been visiting schools on every Teacher's Day since 2003,when he took up his post.Ahead of the 25th Teacher's Day that fell last Thursday,he made an inspection (视察) tour of the Beijing school.
During the morning class,Wen was seen taking notes carefully in Class 5,Junior 2.After the lesson,he sat with several students and shared his notes with them.
He spent the whole morning in the room till the music class ended.The students all sat up very straight,but that day the premier sat the straightest of anyone!He even found a mistake in the geography text book.The book said that Shaanxi and Gansu are in North China,but they are actually in the Northwest.
Wen really enjoyed his visit."It was a memorable (难忘的) experience and I felt as if I had traveled back to my childhood," he said to the students,"I love you and best wishes to you."
Later Wen had lunch with students in the school canteen (食堂).In the afternoon he met the teachers,offering his thanks and suggestions to the teachers.
"Sitting in on classes all morning is my way of paying tribute (对……表示敬意) to you teachers," Wen said."Everyone,no matter how successful they are,owes their growth to their teachers' enlightenment (启蒙) and instruction."
What did students think of Wen's visit?
Chang Ziyi,14,girl:
"Premier Wen sat beside me in the music class.We listened to We Are the World by Michael Jackson.The premier asked me several questions about Jackson.I answered and felt very honored."
Li Yuan,14,girl:
"With the premier in the classroom,I was very concentrated (全神贯注).During the class break,we rushed to him and asked for his autograph (签名).I guess the other classes must be very envious (嫉妒的)!"
Shen Jirui,14,boy:
"After the math class,we rushed to shake hands with the premier and discussed a math problem with him.Premier Wen has grey hair and he looked a bit tired.He must have been working very hard.But his eyes were bright."
