The novel is told in the form of an extended flashback.It begins with Mr.Lockwood,a gentle man,who rents a house called Thrushcross Grange.He wants to express his greetings to the house’s master,Mr.Heathcliff,who lives in a nearby house called Wuthering Heights.What he finds in Wuthering Heights is very strange.All people behave in a strange way and Mr.Heathcliff is a real devil.A few days later,the gatekeeper Ellen Dean (Nelly) tells him what has happened in the two houses.Wuthering Heights belonged to Mr.Earnshaw.Mr.Heathcliff is an orphan and was brought to Wuthering Heights by Mr.Earnshaw.Mr.Earnshaw dearly loved this boy and his daughter,Catherine,built a friendship with the boy.But Mr.Earnshaw’s son Hindley didn’t like Heathcliff at all and he threatened to revenge after his father’s death.He really did so.He treated Heathcliff as a servant and prevented Catherine to play with him.Catherine changed a lot when she grew older.She agreed to marry Edgar Linton,the boy who lived in Thrushcross Grange at that time because of his high social status and his good manners.Despite she knew clearly that her real loved one is Heathcliff.Heathcliff left Wuthering Heights and came back several years later with good manners and a big amount of wealth.Catherine was very happy to see him but her husband wasn’t.Wars broke out between the two men.Catherine died later because of the hopeless love with Heathcliff and tiredness of giving birth to little Catherine.Heathcliff determined to revenge on the Linton and Earnshaw family.He took advantage of Edgar’s younger sister’s love and asked her to run away from her home and married him.In this way he has a chance to get hold of the property of Linton family.Hindley’s son Hareton Earnshaw is also under control of him.When little Catherine grows up,Heathcliff forces her to marry his own sick son little Linton.Thus,he becomes the master of the two families.However,after little Linton dies,he notices the love between little Catherine and Hareton grows day by day and just the same as the love between himself and the dead Catherine.He gives up all his endeavors to revenge.He soon dies but people believe that he is still wandering in the wildness with his loved Catherine.
