A Big Forest Fire
A big forest fire,which was caused by a young worker’s smoking cigarettes broke out in the forest in the southwest of America at the end of November of 2007.Thousands of firemen and local people tried to put out the fire,but they couldn’t put it out in a short time.The fire lasted more than three weeks and was finally put out.Nine people died and about eighty people were injured in the fire which caused a loss of at least twenty million US dollars as well.The fire shocked the whole country.Last Friday,I had an interview with Li Yang,the founder of the Crazy English about how we could learn English well.It is known that quite a few students have so much trouble in learning English that they gradually may lose the confidence in the language and almost give it up.According to Mr.Li,we students should make most of every morning,noon and evening,reading English as aloud as possible.He also suggested that we should spend over 20 minutes reading English words,texts,or reciting famous passages,poems,and even singing English songs.In the interview,I realized that it is really important to do more reading repeatedly.Now,a programme called “Running for the Olympics” is going on in our school,lasting from December l to December 31.The programme is to improve the students' health,and welcome the coming Beijing Olympic Games.The opening ceremony was held on December 1,when all the students ran together around the school.During the one-month programme,the students are encouraged to go running everyday,boys for 2 kilometers while girls for l.5 kilometers.The organizers wish that by the end of the programme,the total running distance of all the students in each class will reach 2000 kilometers,equal to the distance from Guangzhou to Beijing.
