The bird flu is a disease that can affect all species of birds but can, less commonly, infect humans. Although there were many reported cases of human bird flu year, which led to some countries to kill large quantities of birds as means to control such disease, I do not think that is the good way of protection people from getting bird flu.
For most people, the risk of avian flu is extremely low. The risk of health effects from human influenza is far greater. The best way to protect yourself and others from influenza is to:
Get a flu shot;
Wash your hands regularly and with thorough use of soap and warm water; and
Stay home if you are sick.
There is no evidence to suggest that the consumption of cooked poultry or eggs could transmit the bird flu to humans. All the evidence to date indicates that thorough cooking will kill the virus.
However, there is evidence that for people who cook and eat wild birds, the risk of catching bird flu is higher. So it is important for people who hunt and eat wild birds to understand the risks they are taking, and hopefully they will stop eating wild birds.
