答案和解析
A DALBY man will be nominated for a bravery award after he heroically pulled two men from a burning car, minutes before the vehicle exploded.
Randhir Shinmarh,36,was jolted from his sleep at 3.10am on Friday when a car crashed into a roundabout near his Kookaburra Street home in Dalby.
The two occupants of the vehicle,a 31-year-old man and a 24-year-old man, were unconscious when flames began to engulf the car.
Mr Shinmarh said he instinctively ran to the scene and saw one of the men sitting dangerously close to the car.
“I dragged him away from the heat of the burning car ...by this time the car was in seven to nine feet of flames,” he said.
“I tried to ask him about his co-passengers but he was too drunk and injured to reply.
“But then all of a sudden I saw some human movement inside the car.
“To my disbelief I saw one man lying inside with his face down.”
Mr Shinmarh said he struggled to pull the man from the vehicle.
“The heat was very intense,” he said.
After Mr Shinmarh was able to free the man he dragged both men to a safe distance from the car.
“By this time the car’s tyres had blasted and the whole car was converted into a big ball of fire with flames 12 to 15 feet high.”
Mr Shinmarh said he was deeply saddened, however, that none of the other bystanders assisted him in pulling the injured men away from their car.
Sergeant Chris Clague from Dalby Police said Mr Shinmarh performed a selfless act in a potentially deadly situation.
“It takes a special kind of person to run in there and do something like that,” Sgt Clague said.
“To put himself in danger to save another human being is very commendable.”
Sgt Clague said on Friday police suspected both men in the vehicle were under the influence of liquor.
Western Downs Regional Council Community Services portfolio leader Charlene Hall said she would see to it that Mr Shinmarh was nominated for a bravery award.
“He’s done an absolutely amazing thing and it’s something he should be proud of for the rest of his life,” Cr Hall said.
“It’s amazing to know that we’ve got people like that in the community.”
Mr Shinmarh lives in Dalby with his wife and two children and works as an electrical engineer with Origin Energy.
He immigrated to Australia from India in 2004 with his family and was naturalised as an Australian citizen on April 7 this year.
