Since it opened in 1999,this sail--shaped hotel rising from the Arabian Gulf has been in mystery. This is not surprising because Burl Al Arab charges a minimum of 1000 US dollars per night and prevents non--hotel guests form entering it.

Standing 321 meters high,Burj Al Arab is the world’s tallest hotel. It has 202 suites (套房) charging from 1000 US dollars per night to 18,000 US dollars for a royal sutie.

“Some of our customers are ordinary people from abroad who book one night just for the experience or to celebrate their wedding or something,”a hotel public relations officer said.“We don't know who spread t he rumor that we are the world’s only seven--star hotel. We advertise as a five--star hotel。”

It does offer some l uxuries (奢侈品)other five—star hotels don’t have:guests can check in after they have entered their rooms;the hotel helicopter can transport guests from the airport to the hotel’s helipad (直升机停机坪),or take the guests on a sky tour of Dubai, for a price;the hotel has two royal suites, each with its own private elevator and 29 telephones;the bathrooms are paved with marble;the columns are decorated with gold.

Burj Al Arab tries to provide an international atmosphere to make guests from all nationalities feel comfortable. Its staff come from many countries and speak l5 languages. But it looks“a bit small”because the hotel has no open space for hotel guests to wader and associate with one another.
