Nowadays,the main function of a university is a frequent topic of discussion.Some people think that university should provide knowledge and skills needed in the workplace.Others insist that knowledge delivered to students should be focus on its own purposes.Personally,I would incline towards the former one.
Admittedly,if university gives access to knowledge for its own sake,students taught would tend to a type of person that fit university most,such as researcher or project managers.The courses provided are designed for the benefits of universities rather than workplaces,which seems to lead to the situation that graduates from the university are all competitive at certain capabilities.We all know that most of students will eventually leave school and look for job in society.Imagine,if graduates from one university all lack of ability to take up the new job,the university is to be blamed for not providing sufficient resources.These students lose advantages over graduates from other universities,thereby suffering unemployment problem upon graduation.What’s worse,the reputation of university would be spoiled and less students are willing to apply and join.
The objective of studying is to contribute to the community.With necessary knowledge and skill equipped,students are confident to start career and add value to the society.Hence,it’s the university’s responsibility to offer courses catering the needs of various employers,industrials,and workplaces.Both parents and employers would be satisfied if student can gain sufficient trainings and practices preparing them to be a qualified employee.
