Boy oh boy.Your question is becoming more and more difficult.Take my advice.Don't learn English from a dictionary.Instead,read more newspaper,listen to radio and watch television.You will learn the language,and the culture.
I am old,have two masters degree,have worked 20 years in policy and law and am using English everyday in an English speaking country.
Poor me.I have never used detestation.I asked 2 of my staff:one white and one black.Both are native speakers and both don't know this word,though it exists.
Hatred is easy.It is used to describe people's emotion.For example,after you separate from your girlfriend,you can say I hate her.
Disgusting is not referring to your own anger,but your reaction to external people or objectives.For example,if you hear someone say 叼 in the bus,you can say He is disgusting.Another example:Child pronography is disgusting.
Loathe is like hate but the feeling is more intense.We don't use this word very often.
